Edgar Diaz

As a kid  I grew up in Mexico, one day my uncle visited my house and he brought a scketchbook and showed me his sketches. I was amazed and wanted to draw like him. He forgot his sketch book  when he came back to the U.S. The next time i see him, i wanted to show him my sketches and share techniques. He was an inspiration and lit the fuse for me to persue Art. At first  I started drawing my favorite  cartoon characters as I was growing up. Then I came to the US at the age of 13. When i was done with high school i took Art classes in Collage where i leveled up my skills.  After that i wanted to take it to the next level and have my drawigs come to life and do animations. While going to Art school I applied to be a Janitor,  the hours worked for me since it was from 5am to 1pm I was able to go to school and have a job. That same day that i applied in person got an interview with the supervisor and  hired me right away to start the next day. At the time i had no idea that this was a major Visual effects House in Los Angeles (Digital Domain)  that worked on the Titanic and many other blockbusters. I was amazed that I ended up at a VFX company unknowingly. After several years working as a janitor. My manager found my notebook and saw my sketches that i did during my down time. He talked to me about it and I thought i was in trouble haha but, he like them and introduced me to the training supervisor. Time when by and i put in the work and proof myself then, I was given the opportunity,  a chance to work in the 2D department as a roto artist. I started  Helping out in commercials after work hours then, I got hired, moved up to Features to work on my very first movie Flags of our fathers. That was a memorable moment. On that project I made some great friends and learned the ropes and helped each other out.  Since then point on I have continued to work on several block busters features, commercials, tv spots, holograms, music videos and episodic shows. That same visual effects house (Digital Domain) game a change to move up to start compositing. I will always be greatful to this place that gave me a chance to proof my self. I'm passionate and love what i do.  I'm always learning. I have also between shows i have ventures back into sketching, sculpting and graphic designs. I love doing art and been creative its been part of my life.
